Linh Quang Pagoda is located at 133 Hai Ba Trung Street, Ward 6, Da Lat City. It is recognized as the first pagoda to establish the Buddhist foundation in the highland city of Lam Dong. Founded in 1921 by Venerable Thich Nhon Thu, who came from Phu Yen with the Dharma name Tam Trung and the monastic name Nghia Dao, belonging to the 43rd generation of the Lam Te Chanh Tong lineage, Linh Quang Pagoda has a history intertwined with significant figures and historical events. Initially, it was a small thatched hut on a remote 1-hectare plot. In 1933, the pagoda was reconstructed into the Tam Bao temple with contributions from Buddhist followers. Venerable Thich Quang Nhuan took over the pagoda after Venerable Thich Nhon Thu passed away in 1941, continuing to renovate and develop the pagoda. Currently, Venerable Thich Thanh Tan serves as the fourth abbot of the pagoda.
The architecture of Linh Quang Pagoda combines Chinese and Vietnamese art with intricately carved double-layered curved roofs. The pagoda includes main structures such as the main hall, the traditional house, the memorial stele house, and the outdoor statue of Quan The Am. It is a place of worship for the statues of Buddha, Dharma Protectors, Tieu Dien, Patriarch Bodhidharma, and past venerable monks. Besides practicing and propagating Buddhism, Linh Quang Pagoda is renowned for its charitable activities, helping those in need. Notably, on September 27, 1938, the pagoda was granted a royal decree by King Bao Dai, recognizing it as the first pagoda and the ancestral temple of Lam Dong Buddhism. Today, Linh Quang Pagoda is not only a place of religious practice but also a famous spiritual tourist destination.
