History

The pagoda is situated in the Red River riverside area of Phuc Tho district. The exact date of construction is unknown; however, according to oral traditions, the pagoda was founded very early to serve the spiritual and religious needs of the villagers of Phu Chau.

Architecture

Phu Chau Pagoda was built on elevated terrain, surrounded by many trees. At present, the pagoda includes the following structures: the Gate, the Main Sanctuary (Tam Bao), the Mother Goddess Hall (Nha Mau), the Ancestor Hall (Nha To), and the Stele House.

The Main Sanctuary consists of a seven-compartment building, about 9 meters long, built in the style of bit doc tay ngai with sloping tiled roofs (ngoi ri). Two decorative columns are designed in lantern style, topped with a pair of kneeling mythical lions (nghe). Inside, the roof structure is supported by wooden beams (tu thiet) in the traditional keo ke qua giang style, planed smooth with minimal ornamentation. The altars, elevated about 40 cm, house statues such as the Dharma Protectors (Ho Phap), Duc Chua Ong, Duc Thanh Hien, Gia Lam Chan Te, and Diem Nhien Dai Sy.

The Rear Sanctuary (Hau Cung) of the Tam Bao extends inward with three compartments, about 5 meters wide, containing tiered brick platforms for the statues:
