Dao Vien Lu Cam Pagoda, located in Ngoc Hiep ward, Nha Trang city, Khanh Hoa province, is a provincial-level historical site built in the year Ky Mui (1919) by Venerable Thich Hoang Tin, a 44th-generation member of the Lam Te lineage. Initially, the pagoda worshipped Buddha and Quan Thanh De Quan, and later added worship of Mau Thien Y A Na and other deities. The pagoda not only serves as a place of worship but also embodies the indomitable spirit of the people of Lu Cam during the resistance against the French and Americans, especially when Abbot Thich Tri Thanh bravely sheltered and assisted revolutionary cadres. This achievement was confirmed by Mrs. Nguyen Thi Que, former Secretary of the Women’s National Salvation Branch of Nha Trang City, and the Abbot was awarded the Resistance Medal against the French and Americans in 2007. Venerable Thich Tri Thanh passed away in the year Dinh Hoi (2008). The pagoda still preserves the three characters “HIEP THIEN CUNG” and the statue of Quan Thanh De Quan, symbolizing the story of the peach garden oath of brotherhood among Liu Bei, Guan Yu, and Zhang Fei during the Three Kingdoms period. Under the leadership of Venerable Thich Tri Thanh, the pagoda underwent multiple renovations, from tiling the roof in 1964 to building a dignified Tam Bao hall in 1974, and other structures between 1978-1980. Today, Dao Vien Pagoda not only serves as a place for Buddhists to practice and study Buddhist teachings but also as a charitable medical facility, helping the local community with medical treatments, especially smallpox.
