Thân thế
Triệu Vương Thoan là hoàng tử thứ mười ba của vua Lê Thánh Tông. Mẹ ông là người xã Hòa Thược, huyện Kim Trà, thuộc vùng Thuận Hóa.
Cuộc đời
Khi Triệu vương Thoan còn trẻ, có một người quê ở quê mẹ của ông từ Thuận Hóa ra kinh đô làm việc. Khi đến ngoài cửa Đại Hưng, người này gặp một viên tiểu hoàng môn. Thấy ông ăn mặc lam lũ, viên hoàng môn không những coi thường mà còn tranh đường đi với ông rồi quát hỏi: “Mày ở đâu?”. Người ấy trả lời mình ở Thuận Hóa. Viên hoàng môn liền mắng rằng: “Loại sâu bọ này lại dám vô lễ à?”.
Đúng lúc ấy, Triệu vương Thoan từ phía cửa cung cấm đi ra và nghe được câu chuyện. Biết người bị mắng là người cùng quê với mẹ mình, ông lập tức nổi giận, cầm gậy đánh chết viên tiểu hoàng môn.
Sau khi sự việc xảy ra, Triệu vương Thoan không tìm cách che giấu mà lập tức vào thẳng cung tâu với vua. Ông nói rõ mình là con của thiên tử, mẹ là người Thuận Hóa; viên tiểu hoàng môn đã có lời xúc phạm đến mình nên ông không thể kiềm chế cơn giận và đã lỡ tay giết người. Ông cũng tự nhận hành động ấy là tội tự tiện giết người và xin dùng tiền riêng để đền mạng cho viên hoàng môn.
Cách xử sự sau sự việc đặc biệt đáng chú ý, Triệu vương Thoan biết rõ việc giết người là phạm pháp nhưng vẫn chủ động nhận lỗi trước vua, không đổ trách nhiệm cho người khác. Nhà vua thương tình, cho rằng ông có nghĩa khí nên cuối cùng không bắt tội.
Đánh giá
Triệu vương Thoan là một người thông minh, quả cảm, có lòng tự trọng và trọng nghĩa, nhưng sự cương trực ấy đi kèm với tính nóng nảy, khiến ông có hành động quá mức khi bị kích động. Trước việc mình gây ra, ông không né tránh mà trực tiếp nhận tội và xin chịu trách nhiệm. Chính điểm này khiến Lê Thánh Tông, thay vì trị tội, lại thương cảm và ghi nhận ở ông chữ “nghĩa khí”.

Background
Prince Triệu Thoan was the thirteenth son of Emperor Lê Thánh Tông. His mother was a native of Hòa Thược Commune, Kim Trà District, in the Thuận Hóa region.
Life
When Prince Triệu Thoan was still young, a man from his mother’s native region traveled from Thuận Hóa to the capital for work. When he reached the area outside Đại Hưng Gate, he encountered a junior palace eunuch. Seeing that the man was poorly dressed, the eunuch not only looked down upon him but also disputed the right of way and shouted: “Where are you from?”
The man replied that he was from Thuận Hóa. The eunuch immediately cursed him, saying: “How dare a creature like you behave so insolently?”
At that very moment, Prince Triệu Thoan came out from the direction of the forbidden palace gate and overheard the exchange. Learning that the man being insulted came from the same homeland as his mother, he immediately became enraged, seized a staff, and beat the junior eunuch to death.
After the incident, Prince Triệu Thoan did not attempt to conceal what he had done, but immediately went straight into the palace to report the matter to the emperor. He explained clearly that he was a son of the Son of Heaven and that his mother was from Thuận Hóa; the junior eunuch’s insulting words had therefore offended him personally, and he had been unable to restrain his anger and had accidentally killed the man.
He also acknowledged that his action constituted the offense of taking a life without authorization and asked to use his own money to compensate for the death of the eunuch.
His conduct after the incident is particularly noteworthy. Prince Triệu Thoan clearly understood that killing a person was against the law, yet he voluntarily admitted his fault before the emperor and did not shift responsibility onto anyone else. The emperor, moved by his conduct and judging that he possessed a sense of honor and righteousness, ultimately did not punish him.
Assessment
Prince Triệu Thoan was an intelligent and courageous man with a strong sense of self-respect and righteousness, but this upright character was accompanied by a quick temper, causing him to act excessively when provoked.
In facing the consequences of his own actions, he did not evade responsibility but directly admitted his offense and asked to be held accountable. It was precisely this quality that led Lê Thánh Tông, instead of punishing him, to show sympathy and recognize in him a spirit of “righteous courage.”

Triệu vương Thoan était le treizième fils du roi Lê Thánh Tông. Sa mère était originaire de la commune de Hòa Thược, district de Kim Trà, dans la région de Thuận Hóa.

Lorsque Triệu vương Thoan était encore jeune, un homme originaire de la même région que sa mère quitta Thuận Hóa pour se rendre à la capitale afin d’y travailler. Arrivé devant la porte Đại Hưng, il rencontra un petit eunuque du palais. Voyant ses vêtements pauvres et usés, celui-ci non seulement le méprisa, mais lui disputa également le passage avant de lui lancer : « D’où viens-tu ? »
L’homme répondit qu’il était originaire de Thuận Hóa. Le petit eunuque l’insulta alors en disant : « Cette espèce de vermine ose donc se montrer insolente ? »
À ce moment précis, Triệu vương Thoan sortait du côté de la porte du palais intérieur et entendit toute la scène. Apprenant que l’homme insulté venait de la même région que sa mère, il entra immédiatement dans une violente colère, saisit un bâton et frappa à mort le petit eunuque.
Après l’incident, Triệu vương Thoan ne chercha pas à dissimuler son acte et se rendit aussitôt directement au palais pour en faire rapport au roi. Il déclara clairement qu’il était fils de l’empereur, que sa mère était originaire de Thuận Hóa et que les paroles du petit eunuque avaient constitué à ses yeux une offense. Incapable de contenir sa colère, il avait accidentellement tué l’homme.
Il reconnut également que cet acte constituait le crime d’avoir tué quelqu’un de sa propre initiative et demanda à utiliser ses biens personnels pour verser une compensation en réparation de la mort du petit eunuque.
Son comportement après les faits mérite particulièrement d’être relevé. Triệu vương Thoan savait parfaitement que tuer quelqu’un constituait une infraction à la loi, mais il choisit néanmoins de reconnaître de lui-même sa faute devant le souverain, sans chercher à rejeter la responsabilité sur autrui. Le roi, éprouvant de la compassion à son égard et estimant qu’il avait agi par sens de l’honneur et de la loyauté, décida finalement de ne pas le punir.
Appréciation
Triệu vương Thoan était un homme intelligent, courageux, doté d’un grand amour-propre et attaché au sens de l’honneur et de la loyauté. Toutefois, cette droiture s’accompagnait d’un tempérament impulsif, qui le conduisit à commettre un acte excessif sous l’effet de la colère.
Face aux conséquences de son propre acte, il ne chercha pas à se dérober, mais reconnut directement sa faute et demanda à en assumer la responsabilité. C’est précisément ce trait qui amena Lê Thánh Tông, au lieu de le condamner, à éprouver de la compassion pour lui et à reconnaître chez lui ce que les sources qualifient de « nghĩa khí », c’est-à-dire un sens prononcé de l’honneur et de la loyauté.

生平
Triệu vương Thoan 年轻时，有一名与其母亲同乡的人从 Thuận Hóa 前往京城办事。
此人来到 Đại Hưng 门外时，遇见一名 tiểu hoàng môn。
那名 hoàng môn 见他衣着破旧，不但轻视他，还与他争道而行，并厉声问道：“你是哪里人？”
那人回答说自己来自 Thuận Hóa。
hoàng môn 随即辱骂道：“这种虫豸一样的人，也敢如此无礼吗？”
恰在此时，Triệu vương Thoan 从宫禁之门一侧出来，听到了这番话。
得知被辱骂之人与自己的母亲同乡，他立即大怒，拿起棍棒将那名 tiểu hoàng môn 打死。
事情发生以后，Triệu vương Thoan 并未试图隐瞒，而是立即直接入宫向皇帝禀报。
他说，自己是天子之子，母亲是 Thuận Hóa 人；那名 tiểu hoàng môn 所说的话已经构成了对自己的侮辱，因此自己一时无法抑制愤怒，失手将人打死。
他同时也承认，自己的行为属于擅自杀人之罪，并请求以自己的私财为那名 hoàng môn 抵偿性命。
这件事发生以后，他的处置方式尤其值得注意。
Triệu vương Thoan 明知杀人犯法，却仍主动在皇帝面前认错，没有把责任推给别人。
皇帝怜悯他，认为他有“义气”，最终没有治他的罪。
评价
Triệu vương Thoan 是一个聪明、果敢、自尊心强并且重义的人。
然而，这种刚直的性格同时伴随着急躁易怒的一面，使他在受到刺激时采取了过激行动。
对于自己造成的后果，他没有逃避，而是直接认罪，并请求承担责任。
也正因为这一点，Lê Thánh Tông 最终没有治罪，反而对他产生怜惜，并认可其“义气”。
