Đoàn rước rất đông đảo, có tới 56 giai kiệu mặc áo the, quần trắng, thắt lưng nhiễu đỏ.

General Information
The Nhat Tan Communal House Festival is held annually on the 2nd day of the second lunar month, the 10th day of the second lunar month, and the 8th day of the eighth lunar month. Among these, the 10th day of the second lunar month is the main festival day.
According to village tradition, each festival date commemorates an event in the life of the tutelary deity:
The 2nd day of the second lunar month marks the birth of the deity.
The 10th day of the second lunar month commemorates a victory.
The 8th day of the eighth lunar month marks the death (transcendence) of the deity.
In the past, the festival lasted for several days, especially from the 2nd to the 10th day of the second lunar month, attracting large numbers of local residents and visitors.
Location
The festival takes place at Nhat Tan Communal House (Dinh Nhat Tan), located in Nhat Tan ward, Tay Ho district, Ha Noi, along the Red River.
Since ancient times, this area has been inhabited by Lac Viet people who migrated along the river from the mountainous regions to the delta. According to legend, the area once had seven kapok trees planted by Lac Phi, the wife of Lac Long Quan. These trees were associated with an auspicious omen when she gave birth to a sac of one hundred eggs, from which seven dragons ascended to the sky.
In Tung Tay Ho phu, Nguyen Huy Luong wrote:
The place of seven trees still holds traces reaching the clouds,
Not pine nor cypress, yet displaying ancient grace.
History
The people of Nhat Tan ward have long lived along the Red River, closely connected to its natural and historical environment. Since ancient times, Lac Viet inhabitants followed the river from highlands to lowlands, establishing prosperous settlements. According to legend, Nhat Tan (formerly Nhat Chieu ward) was once the site of seven kapok trees planted by Lac Phi, symbolizing the auspicious birth of one hundred eggs, among which seven transformed into dragons and ascended to the sky. This image was praised by Nguyen Huy Luong:
The place of seven trees still holds roots reaching the clouds,
Not pine nor cypress, yet displaying ancient dignity.
According to the deity’s hagiography, the main figure worshipped is Uy Do Linh Lang, also known as Dam Dam Vuong. He was the seventh son of King Tran Thanh Tong and Queen Minh Duc. Despite his talent, he showed no interest in official rank and withdrew early from court life to reside in Nhat Chieu ward, where he devoted himself to reading, poetry, and Buddhist practice at Tao Sach Pagoda.
During the second Mongol invasion of Dai Viet in 1285, he abandoned his religious life, recruited about one thousand volunteers, and formed a force known as the Thien Tu army. Under the command of Tran Hung Dao, this army achieved significant victories in the battles of Man Tru and Dong Ket (Khoai Chau), notably capturing the enemy general Can Ti Hoa La alive. After the victory, he was granted the title Dam Dam Vuong, but he refused rewards and continued his ascetic life. He passed away at the age of 36 and was posthumously venerated as Uy Do Linh Lang to distinguish him from Linh Lang Dai Vuong of the Ly period.
Today, there are more than thirty-six places of worship dedicated to Uy Do Linh Lang, among which Nhat Tan is considered the most closely associated with his life. The communal house preserves valuable documents such as Viet dien u linh and Nhat Chieu dien ky, compiled during the reign of King Le Huyen Tong (Canh Tri era, 1663–1671), providing important records of his life and deeds.
Historically, the festival was held with great solemnity. The royal court sent officials to preside over rituals, and neighboring villages brought offerings: Tay Ho offered buffalo, Thuy Khue offered goats, and Lam Do offered incense and fruits. In daily life, local residents also avoided saying “khoai lang” (sweet potato), instead using “khoai day” to avoid violating the taboo name of Uy Do Linh Lang.
Rituals
The ritual section is highlighted by a grand palanquin procession.
Previously, from the 2nd to the 10th day of the second lunar month, various rituals were conducted. On the 7th day, villagers carried the palanquin of Uy Do Linh Lang along with six palanquins of his generals from Dong hamlet to visit a shrine in Bac hamlet (now near the Nhat Tan – Phu Xa junction), about one kilometer from the communal house.
According to legend, this site marks where a palace maid arrived by boat carrying a basket containing a fetus. At night, a radiant light illuminated the riverbank. Upon hearing a baby’s cry, the royal court took the child in and named him Uy Do.
In addition to the main palanquin, there are six others representing his generals: Chu Ma, Minh Khiet, Vuong Duy, Dong Nga, Vuong Ba, and Dong Ngai.
The procession is large, with 56 male participants dressed in traditional attire of black tunics, white trousers, and red sashes. Eight young women carry the palanquin of the Holy Mother, wearing pink ao dai with floral belts. The procession extends about 300 meters.
After reaching the shrine, a boat is sent to the middle of the Red River to collect water for the bathing ritual (moc duc). On the 10th day, the palanquin is returned from Bac hamlet to the communal house in Dong hamlet.
Festival Activities
Following the rituals are various traditional games and performances such as human chess, cheo singing, trong quan singing, bong dance, and dragon dance.
The most distinctive is the Nhat Tan dragon dance. The dragon is made from a bamboo frame covered with paper and painted in bright colors, with sparkling glass eyes. Its head and tail are connected by a cloth about ten meters long.
The dance team consists of around 25 young men dressed as martial performers. The leader holds a “pearl” guiding the dragon, followed by performers representing mountain and earth deities. Accompanied by drums and gongs, the dragon moves in various formations such as zigzag and figure-eight patterns, creating the vivid image of a dragon moving across waves.
Ranking
Nhat Tan Communal House was officially recognized as a historical and cultural relic by the Ministry of Culture and Information in March 1994.
Beyond its historical and religious significance, the site is associated with important events. Before 1946, it served as a training ground for resistance fighters practicing explosive tactics. On May 8, 1960, President Ho Chi Minh visited the site to cast his vote in the National Assembly election and attend the village festival.

二月初二为诞辰纪念日;
二月初十为纪念战胜之日;

Periode d’organisation
Chon bay cay con may goc lang van
Chang tung bach cung khoe hinh thuong lao.
Histoire
