Trước đây, đình nằm trên đất trại An Lãng, huyện Quảng Đức, phủ Phụng Thiên, gần khu vực thành Thăng Long.
Phù Trần bái vũ vạn dân an(Giúp vua Lý đánh giặc Chiêm nên thiên cổ tích

General Information
The Ung Thien Communal House Festival is held annually on two occasions. The spring festival takes place from the 6th to the 8th day of the third lunar month, with the 6th as the main festival day. In addition, there is an autumn festival on the 26th day of the ninth lunar month, though on a smaller scale.
The spring festival is the most significant event, attracting large numbers of local residents and pilgrims. This period also coincides with the festival of Lang Pagoda in Lang Thuong village, creating a festive atmosphere that spreads across the entire region of the three former Lang villages.
Location
The festival is held at Ung Thien Communal House (Dinh Ung Thien), located in Lang Ha ward, Dong Da district, Ha Noi.
Historically, the communal house stood on the land of An Lang hamlet, Quang Duc district, Phung Thien prefecture, near the Thang Long citadel. This area belonged to the famous three Lang villages of the old capital: Lang Thuong, Lang Trung, and Lang Ha, known for their long-standing vegetable cultivation tradition, reflected in the folk saying:
Dua La, ca Lang, nem Bang, tuong Ban…
The three Lang villages area contains a dense concentration of historical sites. Notably, Lang Pagoda is dedicated to Zen master Tu Dao Hanh and hosts a major festival coinciding with that of Ung Thien Communal House.
Other significant sites in the area include:
Nen Pagoda, believed to have been built on the former residence of Tu Dao Hanh’s parents.
Voi Phuc Temple, dedicated to Prince Linh Lang.
Cam Ung Pagoda, dedicated to the Earth Mother Buddha.
Temples dedicated to Cao Son Dai Vuong, Princess Vinh Gia, Lady Tu Nuong, and other deities.
The three Lang villages, with their nine hamlets, historically contained nine places of worship, most of which still exist today and maintain close connections within local religious life.
History
According to local tradition, Ung Thien Communal House originated from an ancient temple dedicated to the goddess Nguyen Quan Hau Tho during the Ly dynasty. The temple was built after King Ly Thanh Tong’s campaign against Champa in 1069 to commemorate the deity’s assistance in securing victory.
In Viet dien u linh, Ly Te Xuyen recorded a story of the deity’s miraculous intervention:
Nguyen Quan is the deity of the land of the South. When King Ly Thanh Tong set out to suppress Champa, a violent storm arose at the sea gate, with towering waves like mountain ranges. The royal fleet could not proceed and had to anchor by the shore. That night, the king dreamed of a beautiful woman dressed in white and pink who stepped onto the royal boat and said: “I am the essence of this land, long dwelling upon a tree. Now that I encounter a wise ruler leading a campaign against southern invaders, I vow to assist in achieving victory.” After speaking, she vanished…
After returning victorious, the king ordered the construction of a temple in the capital to worship the deity.
During the reign of Tran Anh Tong, a severe drought occurred. The king performed rituals for rain and received a divine message in a dream. Following the rites, heavy rain fell, and the deity was granted the title Ung Thien Hau Tho Phu Nhan.
A couplet preserved at the communal house commemorates these events:
Tro Ly binh Chiem thien co tich
Phu Tran bai vu van dan an
(Assisting the Ly king in defeating Champa – a legacy for eternity
Aiding the Tran king in bringing rain – ensuring peace for the people)
Over successive dynasties, the deity received further titles and became the tutelary deity of the region. During the Later Le period, the temple was expanded and transformed into the communal house of Lang Ha village.
The communal house features a “cong”-shaped architectural layout, including the front hall, a square pavilion, and two parallel side corridors. It has undergone multiple restorations from the Ly, Tran, and Le periods, with the last major renovation recorded in 1890 under King Thanh Thai.
The site still preserves valuable architectural and artistic elements such as carved decorations, statues, horizontal lacquered boards, and parallel sentences.
Rituals
The ritual section is conducted with great solemnity, beginning before the main festival day.
Prior to the festival, villagers prepare flags, ritual objects, and clean the roads and sacred spaces. Village elders collect pomelo flowers to prepare fragrant water for the bathing ritual (moc duc).
The bathing of the deity’s statue is carefully performed using pomelo-scented water. A red cloth is dipped into the fragrant water and used to cleanse the statue. Participants often apply this water to their heads and faces as a way of receiving blessings. Pieces of the cloth are torn and distributed as protective charms.
Following this is the dressing ritual (gia quan), in which the statue and spirit tablet are ceremonially clothed and crowned.
Around 8 a.m. on the main festival day, the communal yard becomes crowded. The festival is officially opened with drums and gongs, followed by the reading of ritual texts praising the deities and praying for blessings.
Next is the incense offering by village lineages. Each lineage sends representatives to perform rituals with offerings including both vegetarian and non-vegetarian trays.
In the afternoon, the grand ritual (dai te) takes place, the most important ceremony of the festival. The ritual team consists of 17 carefully selected elders performing six ritual sequences accompanied by traditional music.
On the 8th day of the third lunar month, a thanksgiving ritual is held before the Mother altar, concluding the spring festival.
For the autumn festival on the 26th day of the ninth lunar month, the main rite is the offering of new rice and seasonal products to express gratitude to the deity.
Festival Activities
Alongside the rituals are various festive activities.
Throughout the spring festival, the communal yard and surrounding areas are lively with folk games such as tug of war, cockfighting, wrestling, and cheo performances. At night, there are performances of cheo, chau van singing, and Buddhist theatrical plays.
On the 7th day of the third lunar month, groups from village divisions and associations continue to offer incense. Outdoor games and competitions remain active, especially wrestling and cockfighting.
The atmosphere becomes even more vibrant in the evening with performances by cheo and tuong troupes, drawing large audiences despite the cool spring weather.
A distinctive feature of the Ung Thien festival is that it takes place simultaneously with festivals at other sites within the three Lang villages, especially Lang Pagoda, whose large processions pass through multiple areas. As a result, visitors can experience several important historical and cultural sites of ancient Thang Long in a single occasion.

垫寺(相传建于慈道行父母旧居之上);
伏象祠(供奉灵郎皇子);
感应寺(供奉地母佛);

Histoire
